Converting Skype vmail to .mp3
Ok, six months later and much more experience but I still don’t have a sure fire easy way to do this. There has to be a hack out there for a small problem that I’ve come across in attempting to use Audacity to record Skpe vmails to .mp3 (but I haven’t found that yet).
What I did find was a successful use of doing this with Audacity when both Skype and Audacity were older. But what I see in the newer versions of Skype (or is Audacity doing it?) is that it mutes the “What U Hear” button in the “Record Control” dialogue for windows every time I try to use Audacity to record what I hear :-)
Well, so much for the evolution of the solution. In the meantime I am able to backup my entire Skype user directory, and put it in another location for safe keeping. Any time I want to listen to voicemails that ‘were’ in that backup, I have to close out Skype and replace my entire user directory just to listen to those.
I am sure I could figure out which cryptic file name relates to what voicemail, and what user configuration file is connected to the whole thing but that’s just more effort than I want to put into it for now. There is someone out there working on a better way to skin that cat in the meantime. But where are you buddy? :-)
